Books - O que foi não volta ser...

O que foi não volta ser...

This book is the final result of a project carrying out between November 2021 and November 2022 that involves placing old photographs of Macau, taken in black and white between the 1930s and 1990s, in the same places today. The original images, many captured by unknown authors, are part of my personal collection of old photographs, acquired in auctions and antique houses.

Preface by Maria de Belém Roseira

"The concept, one supposes, may not be entirely unique, but it is nevertheless clever and well-executed. The black and white past floats ghostily in the full-colored present, a sort of historical augmented reality made concrete" - Asian Review of Books

This book is a summary of the thousands of photographs I have taken since arriving in Macau, in September 2010. I can state that in these pages are many of my experiences and personal vignettes of five years (2010-2015). My point of view of the territory that was kind enough to welcome me. Many of these images were taken for publication in the local press, and others for my personal archive.

Preface by José Luís Peixoto

"Macau 5.0 acts as summative detail of a place and its people as reported with about as much straight forward clear purposed objectivity as a camera can muster" - Strant
